If you’re a Christian, no doubt this question has come up. “What distracts you from God?” And if you’re a church-goer, no doubt the first answer is sin!
Well duh… of course sin distracts you from God. Sin creates a rift in the fellowship of you and God. But this list is five unique things that prevents me from spending time with God. Ready?
#5 — Hunger
Strange things start happening when your blood sugar gets low. You get grouchy. You get weak. And you get easily distracted. This is especially bad if you are at work.
IT’S STORY TIME!!!
Any of you Level 5 computer geeks out there have probably attached a CAT-5 end to a network cable. If you have, you know how precise you have to be with your hands, lining up the wires and all. Now try that while you are shaking from hypoglycemia.
Just as difficult is trying to read the Bible or pay attention in worship on an empty stomach. Don’t even try. Closeness with God has to be desired and craved, which is difficult if you desire and crave a steak.
[But what about fasting, you ask?] Well, I’ve never actually fasted from food in the name of my beliefs, but it seems to me like that is more of a test of faith that God can help you endure, despite a lack of a physical need. Fasting seems very admirable, but if you’re just trying to learn more about your relationships God I think you should make sure you aren’t to hungry to try.
