This is a blog post targeted at conservative Christians like me. This blog has a range of audience interest. That means if you are a conservative Christian, you will ABSOLUTELY want to read it. If you are JUST a conservative or JUST a Christian, you may have interest. If you are a liberal and don’t care about Jesus, you’re dismissed. That will be the only joke.
Whew. Guys. We’re in a mess. Our sentiments and thoughts of the glorious country that is America is simply a shell of what it once was. What was once a thriving example of what becomes of a government under God has been taken over by people. And people are incapable of understanding the ongoing intricacies of the complex nature of things like government and economics. Mix in a little power-lust and greed, type it up, and put it in a cookbook, because here you have a recipe for disaster.
Why are we so stunned this time, as opposed to all the other times liberal government has won over? Because this time our world has been rocked. This time, for the first time in our lives, our ability to pursue the dreams and the opportunities allowed by the system of God and men that is America is being challenged. It is a shot to the heart, and a shot to the heart results in death. This time, it’s death of dreams and ideas and futures.
This is all very much true, but people, we can NOT be scared, fearful, and depressed. Reel from this. In God’s power we can change the world. This is just part of the ebb and flow of God’s history. WE MUST PREVAIL. God even tells us what to do. This isn’t the first time Christians have been confronted by tough governments.
Paul’s God’s wonderful words tell us what to do.
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
2 Timothy 2:1-6 (NIV)
What do we do, Christians? We pray. We pray and pray and pray. We read God’s word. We embrace each other. We have no choice. The persecution is coming. The pain of living is coming. A storm is coming.
I’m not saying this to scare you, but to encourage you. Together, we can stand firm together. We can weather the storm that looms large to the east, coming with massive force. We can set aside our embrace of material things if necessary, but we can never set aside our embrace for Christ, each other, and a dying world.
But I am still convinced there is hope for America if Christians can unite. Even a shell of America is so much more than most others have. Do I think that conservative values are the way to go? Absolutely. But that becomes irrelevant in the face of God, who is the only one who can understand a chaotic universe. I know you know all of the answers about politics and such but…
NO YOU DON’T. Neither do I. So the only thing you can do is actively and persistently seek God’s will, and follow through. He can save us. He has to. Cry out to Him, not to Facebook. Cry out to Him, not to the president. Cry out to Him. Fall on your knees if you must.
This has been a long time coming. But Americans…
We can do this…
